Hometown Heroes Banner Program

Phase II of the Borough of Wharton Hometown Heroes Banner Program is now open! These banners designed to honor and recognize residents and family members of Wharton who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The Program will display weather resistant, double sided, vinyl banners featuring the service member’s photo, name, branch of service, and years of service on Borough light poles throughout town. Placement of the banners will be at the Borough’s discretion. Banners will be approximately 18” x 36" in size.  Phase II of the Program will be accepting applications on a first come first served basis, June 22nd through July 6th, 2026. These banners will be on display through Veterans Day. 

Please submit only one honoree per form. While you may include additional information on your application, only certain information will be included on the banners at the Borough’s discretion. Applications are to be submitted online, and you will be notified if your submission was accepted and the photo was in the correct format. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted to submit your $55 banner fee in person at the Wharton Borough Municipal Building, located at 10 Robert Street, Wharton, NJ. Payments must be made within 3 days of approval in order to be finalized. Only cash or checks made payable to the Borough of Wharton will be accepted.

Yard Waste Pick Up

Leaf-Bags

Bagged Yard Waste pick up begins on Monday, April 6th and runs every Monday, except holidays, until November 23rd. Check your calendar for exact dates. Free yard waste bags for Wharton Residents are available at the Recycling Center during their regular hours.  

Please note:

  1. Leaves and grass clippings must be put into paper yard waste bags or a refuse can. No plastic bags are able to be picked up.
  2. A refuse can may be used only for leaves, grass clippings or small twigs and sticks.
  3. Leaves and grass are the only acceptable items to be put in paper yard waste bags. 
  4. All brush (branches, bushes and sticks) must be no longer than six feet and tied in bundles that weigh less than fifty pounds.
  5. No branches or limbs greater than four inches in diameter will be picked up.
  6. No tree or shrub stumps will be taken.

Curbside pick up of loose leaves begins October 19th & runs through December 4th. There are no set dates for pick up. Please place your leaves at the curb without blocking sidewalks or crosswalks and at least 7ft from any storm drain. Do not put anything other than leaves in the pile.

Wharton is a community of approximately 7,346 residents in the highlands of Morris County. Wharton is located between Routes 15, 46 and 80, stretching south from the main entrance of Picatinny Arsenal, a major army research and development center, to Route 46 abounded on the west by Roxbury Township and the east by Dover and Rockaway Township. The Borough is approximately 2.2 square miles.

Town Hall Office Hours
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday

Town Hall is open until 7:30 p.m the second Thursday of the month (except for certain election weeks) and closes at 12:30 p.m. on the second Friday of the month.
